Food manufacturing and retailing are among the top industries in the Toronto economy, with 105,000 food manufacturing workers employed in Ontario—more than any other manufacturing sector—and nearly 450,000 retail workers in the Toronto area, with both industries continuing to grow.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 73.3 million workers in the United States are paid hourly wages, representing 55.5% of all workers. Additionally, research from HR.com found that 73% of large organizations recruit hourly workers.
